TRAVEL IN INDIA

   Visit Goa ...

...
Goa : This former Portugese colony is a picturesque land full of scenic charm and many attractions such as historic forts, elaborately ornate churches and temples, evergreen hills and mountains, winding rivers, creeks and fields and particularily, the palm fringed pearly white beaches which can leave any vistor spellbound. Panjim is one of the smallest but most unique of all the state capitals of India. It is laid out on a typical grid pattern, centred on a Church set on a civic square.
The riverfront extends from Gaspar Dias to the Mandovi River Bridge in a succession of open spaces, pretty vernacular houses with stucco walls and tilted roofs, and administrative buildings.

Externally it is Tuscan in style and façade with a statue of St. Michael. A short distance from the Cathedral is the huge Basilica of Bom Jesus, facing a large central square more popularly known as the Church of St. Francis Xavier. The Basilica of Bom Jesus is a spectacular building erected in 1594 AD. It is a renaissance baroque building combining Ionic, Doric, Corinthian and composite styles in an imaginative and original manner. The Tomb of St. Francis Xavier is a silver casket, a magnificent specimen of Italian and Indian art, is a reliquary containing the sacred body of the saint. Every ten years the holy relics are displayed to the public on the anniversary of the Saint’s death. Also visit Dona-Paula, Marmugao harbour,Calangute beach,Marine beach and Miramer beach.
