It has an inexhaustible variety of roofs, cupolas, paintings, ornamental friezes, and balconies, cornices and details that prove an irresistible fascination for visitors and repay careful inspection. Proceed further to see the Gujari Palace, built by Raja Mansingh for his favourite wife, now contains archaeological museum, and has an outstanding collection of Brahmin and Jain sculpture, inscriptions and paintings. Visit the Tomb of Tansen (early 17th century) - the famous musician of Emperor Akbar's court. On an annual festival, the famous musicians from all over the country come here to participate every year.
Datia
Datia lies 24 kilometres from Jhansi. The main interest of the town lies in the palace and cenotaphs of its former ruling family. The palaces at Datia are the best surviving examples of architectural style which arose, in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Situated on an outcrop of rock, the multistoried palace is known as Narsingh Dev Palace (Govind Mandir). The facades enriched with bracketed balconies, kiosks and arcades, affording delightful vistas dappled by patterns of light and shade.
