Hyderabad with its twin city Secunderabad, presents a fine picture of Muslim and Hindu cultural co-existence, a convergence of the past and present as well as the coming together of north and south India in its population, monuments, modern buildings, bazaars and way of life.
Hyderabad is also known as "the land of nawabs". The Nawabs are the royal people of Hyderabad. It is a multi-lingual state. The state language is Telugu and the language used for trade and commerce is generally English but the Hyderabadis generally speak Urdu. The city of Hyderabad is famous for pearls and the oldest shopping Center known as the lad (Lord) Bazaar (bazaar of Lac bangles).

Five universities, the famous Osmania University, the University of Hyderabad, the Jawaharlal Technological University, the Agricultural University and the Andhra Pradesh Open University, make Hyderabad an important centre of education. It is called the training capital of India, having the largest number of training centres in India.
