It is 136 km from Kochi and 162 km from Madurai. Munnar is a hill station on the western ghats known as ‘High Ranges’ which contribute to a major part of South India’s tea production.
It is also famous for the lake reservoir and the lush verdant forest. Opened up more than a century ago by planter pioneers, this region is described by state manual as having been "unexplored region, covered by thick beaver-haunted forests, abode of elephants, tigers, bison and leopards". Visit may include The Kundale Tea Plantation, Eravikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, Rajmalai Park and High Range Club.
